Papers, 1949-1969

The Lora Crouch Papers date from 1946-1969, and consist of material related to North Dakota author Vera Kelsey, who published Red River Runs North in 1951. Included are six letters written by Kelsey to Crouch, as well as one letter written by Crouch to a "Mrs. Pearce" regarding Kelsey's book. A newspaper clipping of Badger Clark, accompanied by a note by Crouch explaining that one of the characters in Red River Runs North was modeled after him, is also included. Also included is one professional photograph of Vera Kelsey which was used by Harpers for several of Kelsey's books on the country of Brazil, as well as two snapshots of her: 1.) Color, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, fall 1946; 2.) Black and white, Cass Lake, Minnesota, summer 1949.

Lora Elizabeth Crouch was born on January 18, 1907, in Dallas County, Iowa, to Clifford and Cora Crouch. She attended Dakota Wesleyan University, in Mitchell, South Dakota, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1933. Soon after, she pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Library of Sciences from the University of Illinois between 1934-1939.
